help! my first eggs!!
Hi!
when I arrived from work today I went to feed my tortoises. I found 2 eggs on the horsfields enclosure, partially hidden on the substract! 1 unfortunately was completely broken, probably trampled by the tortoises, but the other one is intact! what should I do now! I dont have an incubator yet! where do I keep that egg? I know I'm not suppose to change its orientation right? do I remove it from the enclosure and where do I keep it?? do I put it in the fridge? do I put it in a container at normal temperature? how many days can I keep it without being incubated?? please help and advices gonna buy 1 incubator tomorrow a.s.a.p, but what do I do with the egg in the meanwhile?? |

Congratulations!
I just left mine on the kitchen worktop in a container until my incubator was ready, they are fine like that. |

Hi, lucky you, it's very exciting isn't it? If you get an incubator make sure, that the incubator can go to temps between 29c and 34c. Make sure you can switch off any turning mechanism (which is used for bird eggs). Has your female been with a male in the last 3 years?

Put it in an egg box with some kitchen paper under it, keep it at room temp, about 20 degrees and I believe it should be fine for a week at least, and order an incubator . I use a hovabator incubator which works very well, but I don't know about other makes. But not one for birds eggs ( which will have a turning mechanism ) when your incubator arrives get it up to temp and humidity, before putting the egg in. The egg needs to sit on vermiculite , which is moist , not wet.
Good luck
