Potential purchasers are advised to ask if there is a valid Article 10 for the specimen. If one is not in place they should not purchase the specimen, as it would constitute an illegal sale

On purchasing your tortoise, the seller should supply you with a certificate number which you will need should you wish to apply for an updated certificate in your own name.

An Annex A tortoise over 100mm in length offered for sale must be microchipped and accompanied by a Specimen Specific Certificate (which doesn't have to be in the sellers name as the tortoise is permenantly marked)

However, there is no requirement for a licence in order to possess an Annex A tortoise, or if you give one away as a gift.

The purpose of this thread is to remind every seller of a Tortoise that needs an Article 10, that the Article 10 needs to have YOUR name on it (as the owner) to legally sell the tortoise to someone else.

So please if your selling a tortoise that needs an Article 10, make sure it's in your name.

If your buying a tortoise, make sure the sellers name is listed on the article 10 as the owner.
