er.... confused...
Hi, I've got a hermanni hermanni and thought is would be a good idea to weigh him. I got 40g and 5cm shell length when I put it in a jackson ratio it came out at 0.32. Looking at the written guide hes over weight.
Is this right am I raising a heffer thh? Or am I special and not calculated it right? Cheers Pete. |

The Jackson ratio doesn't work on small torts, only over 6inches (I think) but someone will be along to give u more advice i'm sure.
Marg.

There is a hatchling graph somewhere on this forum, do a search on the site and it should bring the thread up x

The Jackson Ratio was only ever a rough guide and devised originally for wild caught tortoises which are very often a different shape to current day captive bred ones.

It's more size than age, the hatchling graph is up to 9cm I think and if your tort is 5cm then this is the graph you need x

This does say for hatchlings under 6 months but it covers hatchling sizes up to 9cm x

I think the Jacksons Ratio is not as relevant/accurate below 100mm. I found this link which has a coupling of graphs for smaller torts.
