When I took my tort to the reptile vet a couple of weeks ago she said that the Jackson ratio was outdated and they (vets) don't use it anymore. Dan what your opinion on that?

It's not bad to use as a guide for tortoise weights. I personally like Adrian Haley's ratio, but that only works for 100mm tortoises and above.

What's the difference between Haley's and Jackson's?

I do believe Jackson used some captive tortoises in his formula and Hailey's is all done with wild tortoises.

Where can we find Hailey's ratio and is it only for certain species? Thanks

She didn't say, she just weighed them and didn't refer to any chart, then said 'she is a bit underweight' (which we knew because of the Jackson ratio lol) I will ask her when I go back.
The breeder who I got my baby from said she doesn't use the Jackson ratio anymore she just does the finger test? She has been keeping torts for many years and they are all so healthy. She can tell by having a feel just inside their shell at the base of their neck if they are over or under weight. I'm not that clever, I need a chart!

Thanks Tracey thats the one.
It works for Spur-thighs, Hermanns and Marginateds, Wendy. They even break it down for the sexes. Danny
