Estivation or Aestivation among Animals is a deep prolonged sleep, that occurs in the summer or dry season in response to heat and/or drought. They can lower there metobolic rate to do this. Unless i have lead myself up the wrong path, the Tortoise can do this also for winter and only mammals truely Hibernate. So the Tortoise is capable of Estivating most of the year, a winter and a summer as some of the S.Africans do.

Brumation not totaly sure as it applies to Hibernation but not quite the same.:?:
Brumation a lethargic state in Reptiles and some other animals, eg Bears.
So it is just an other word for Hibernation/Estivation, is it, can it, was it.:-P

:grin::grin: i'm sure we used to do a bit of Estivation millions of years ago, sit and wait for better weather to go out clubbing.
