Just how soft are they when they hatch ?? and how long does it take before they harden uo ??

jeff, I finally read the camera user manual recently, so thats why the close ups are a lot clearer ... Dazza, the hatchlings are very very soft/pliable when born, even after a month, they are still delicate. I am extremely careful when holding them, It is only through a lot of hatchling experience, I can confidently hold a new born tort in the manner the photos suggest...You should have seen me a fair few years ago, I would gingerly cup both hands when holding a new born, and as for handling the eggs back then, it used to take me ages to clean them after they were laid!...T.T. 8)

Excellent pictures - it must be an amazing event to watch, thank you for taking the picture and allowing us to experience the hatching (although i'll porobably never comprehend it ever being that small the size of your thumbnail teeny!)
