Default dan the man

Hi all
Just wondering if somebody could advise please. I have a Horsefield...he is 2 years and 9 months, I have had no problems ...he is fed daily with an amount that would cover his shell (give or take) eats well..poos and wees well...looks healthy and happy..loves going out in the garden....anyway i carried out a home visit recently and the kids who lived there came to show me their tortoise...of course i said ooo I have a horsefield etc etc...how old is yours..the kids mum said 3...well i nearly fell over coz it was twice the size of mine....she keeps hers in a glass tank coz the pet shop told her to and feeds it lettuce and chopped carrots.....i told her to check out this website before I left..but this has got me paranoid now that my little one is underweight ......i measured mine today aginst the skirting board with a piece of wood and he measured approx 11.8cm (coz he was pushing his head out) I weighed him on my kitchen scales and he weighs in at 350g.........what do u think?
thanks in advance!!!

Thanks for the reply....its a worry isn't it ha ha....i have had mine for 2 years and because he seems happy and healthy i didn't really give it much thought...it was just when i seen this other horsefield i thought she was going to say it was 5 or 6...but perhaps she doesn't know its age coz she didn't really know much about it....i told her that hers was a horsefield

the head must be in when you measure the length, even a few mm makes a difference to the length x weight chart, The McIntyre Ratio.

The other people's tort might have been a different breed, a sulcata or a leopard maybe? if not then it must just be big.

You would need to check the McIntyre ratio chart to see what yours should be. Nothing is set in stone, you get bigger ones and smaller ones just like humans

Looks between low and average on the McIntyre ratio chart:

thats really helpful that....thanks....yeah i would have said he may be on the smaller side as i'm careful not to overfeed but he has enough food to well cover his shell everyday and when the weather is good he comes out to graze....
thanks all x
