kamikaze warrior!
Ok, so had the munster a week now, spent a great deal of the weekend piddling about with bulbs and temp readings and generally watching, and talking too, our new member of the family.
One observation, that made my eyes water was he loves to climb. Have a few of those hubbahuts in the viv which he sleeps in, but he also loves climbing them .... only problem is, one is about 3 inches high (munster is 3 inches long)and even though I've built a platform of beech chips to get down, he seems to want to leap head first from the from the front of it! So my question is, it all happens so quick I can't see if he is instinctively closing his eyes and retracting his head before impact! He seems fine after the "leap of faith" and has done it a few times now, i'm not saying he's thick or anything, but is this normal tort behaviour? Thanks all, Mark |

yep, they usually do know what they are doing or will do after a few slam dunks. My older ones look over concrete edges in the garden before they decide to nose dive but think the younger ones need to learn distance and surface. Horsfields would absail it without a shoot. just watch Munster can't do a full somersault and land upside down , especially near a heat source or it'll be curtains...(I always sound like voice of doom sorry ! I am actually very upbeat laid back.....)

ha , Mr FG has come out of hibernation ! that's because we multi task. for instance i'm cooking chilli con carne, creating a pina colada, posting, painting tortoise pickies and making a list for Santa, because, as you helpfully pointed out...hints don't work !

What a little character Munster is. Does your son know anything yet?

Hi Jan, unfortunately my 11 year old is a bright cookie! I think He knows there is a vivarium in there, because he's seen me go in the spare room with my screwdrivers and he can see there's a light in there! But I don't think he realises a tort is there too! The anticipation is really exciting him, knowing there's something in there but he's not allowed to peak .... I asked him tonight if he's been in the room and he put his hand on his heart and said "no". Knowing him like I do, I truly believe him. The tort thing all came about because his best friends brother has a spur thigh and he always comes out when we visit. For 2 years now, I've said no pets, but this year I lost to the wife! Oh, and I also lost on the full drum set! Going to be a crazy Christmas Day, one he's not going to forget!!!x

My torts face plant off their habba huts too! Completely normal crazy tort behaviour!
You must be so excited about seeing your son's face on Christmas Day.

The world would grind to a halt if us ladies didn't multi-task, right CB? I take it you're pretty good with your drinkies according to G's comment. I have my in-laws over from Canada and we had a late night drinking session last night. I'm such a lightweight so I'm feeling a bit fragile this morning. Another 9 days of it to go. I'm planning meals that'll soak up the alcohol. My little wine glasses are about a quarter the size of their 'buckets'. I'll be sozzled by the time Santa arrives. I'm still endeavouring to do a Christmas pic for you but it's been party after party, two weeks of family visits and my daughter's birthday, and no sign of any let-up yet. The week leading up to Christmas I think I'm just going to take my hot water bottle and blanket everywhere with me and sleep!!
