Keith you have a name plaque - love it !! we all need one. Both enclosures are fantastic - I wish I was brave enough to leave my tiny ones outside overnight. They look so small and vulnerable against the bigger ones. I went over to find Franklyn in his outdoors area on his back and nearly went spare. He couldn't have been there long as I did let him right himself and he did.. eventually, but it takes deep breaths not to intervene with the tinies....the Horsfields are always doing it and circus acts so I'm not so worried. Got some good ideas from the planting too - lavender seems to be popular this year.

Jerry loves being outdoors and is quite adept at righting himself, though I've never seen him upside down outside. He certainly seems happier out there than in his table, they're a lot tougher than we think really.

Well she's eaten most of the petunia leaves already Lavender, thyme, hebe and oregano are slow growing but they make the enclosure look nice. I also planted some weed seeds, but again, she ate them as soon as they sprouted so I will now just grow them in pots I think!

I saw someone using an upside down metal hanging basket over new plant shoots which I thought was a great idea, it give the plants a chance to grow and the only bits the tortoise could get was what grew through the gaps. I cannot remember which forum I saw it on but what a great idea.
Im talking about this part of the hanging basket http://www.diy.com/departments/bloom.../228571_BQ.prd You would have to pin it down in place or put something heavy on top of it. |

Daryn I could post a picture of the one I did as I saw it mentioned and thought fantastic idea and so created it with an old one I had - it does work ok, the size of it can take up a lot of room but only downside is my lot pull the blooming plants out of it root and all. Mabel may be more civilised of course !! CB

Upside down hanging basket
Here you go Tatty - I only tried it this year. 1st picky is of a pot buried low in the ground - my Horsfield boys love it ! climb all over it. - so I raised it a bit !
[/IMG] And upside down hanging basket first time this year bit late in the season and photograph taken today. Good fun for them too and would be great to let the weeds take hold next year. CB [/IMG]
