Default Microchips and CITES

We have a ‘creep’ of juvenile tortoises and have arranged to get them microchipped by a reptile specialist on Friday. We’re planning eventually to breed from them and they have hatchling CITES certificates. Once they’re chipped do we need to do anything else to update or renew their certificates? Is it legal to sell tortoises without microchips? Thanks for your help.

Hi Nicky

If you want to sell hatchling you will need to get Specimen Specific certificates for the parents and this means providing the chip numbers and copies of the existing certs. You can then get Transaction Certificates for your hatchling if you are selling them.
Hope that helps.

Once they are adult and laying eggs, any that hatch will then need their own certs. To do this a form will need to be filled out with the adults chip numbers on it. So dont lose the cert numbers:0)
Once each tortoise has their own chip number and cert thats it:0)
