I'm really jealous. I would love to look out of my window and see that as my garden

I do appreciate it except that it is major work to get any grasses to grow.

I think that would be a complete waste of time and money as nothing, apart from the odd, tasty edible fungi, will grow under pine trees, as i'm sure Aldabraman knows.

It's not rocket science , all that's needed is a few tree's clearing to let in more light.

Wellllllll--------it's not really as simple as that! To put it simply, pine needles, once they fall, give off an acid as they decompose which inhibits grass, weeds etc from growing and therefore competing with the pines. Rhododendrons have a similar crafty way of ensuring survival of the species. maybe Aldabraman doesn't want to chop all his pines down and hoik all the stumps up!

EJ doesn't have to dig all the tree stumps up, just leave them for a few years and after Serpula lacrymans has done its job the torts can then go round and eat them.
