Default Weed ID help

http://weedid.wisc.edu/ca/weedid.php

http://www.botanicalkeys.co.uk/flora/

and of course...

While I don't agree with the mindset of the approach to feeding and diet... the rest is probably the best out there...

That size chart is probably based on what you 'should be feeding and how much'... hence a point of disagreement on my part. I've always felt that site is the best resource for weed ID and variety of natural selections available to feed.

I don't get how you can feed so little to a tortoise that it grows so slowly. I don't give mine huge amounts, in fact I don't even feed them some days, just let them find what they can themselves in the summer and top them up maybe twice a week with weeds I've picked. My baby just seems to grow. She didn't eat much at all for 3 months during winter, the odd few pellets every 3 or 4 days and she still grew and put on weight. I think I would have to give her one or two leaves a day to stop her growing.

How can you get a "variety" of weeds in their diet if you only feed a couple a day? Sounds like some very misguided, verging on cruel, people out there. Surely not feeding enough is just as bad as giving lettuce by the handful. They probably get the same amount of nutrients a day.

I don't think the 'hand guide' is much use. I've got really huge hands (and feet) and my OH has tiny ones. So the same tortoise would seem to be much too big or too small depending who is holding it.

The advice is no better or worse than anything else out there... personally... I love the 'just enough to cover the shell method'.

Thanks for the Links Ed - I hadn't come across the TLady Plant guide, lots of great pictures and its an easier list to manage that the Tortoise table.

I have always used that list, there's more variety on there than in my own diet which is mostly chips, fish, chinese stuff and not much else
