Default Humidity for Hermann

Hello. Is 58 okay for the humidity level? I've managed it! I'm so pleased! They seem to love being in it, they come out to bask and keep going in and out, some stay in for ages and the other wander.

Really need some feedback on this.

I used Coco Coir as a substrate with heaps of Moss on the top. Hyrometer reads 58.

you sound excited ! yes its fine lynnie lou but not constantly (I think humid hides can be but will bow to others on that - I spray the top coco soil just until it dries out again. Mine can go up to 65% with sprayer and then dries out over the day. humid hides seem quite interesting to tortoises. CB

I am, I really do excited about things like this. Only the best for my Tortoises.

What if it goes higher than that? They'll remove themselves won't they don't like it? I'm not the brightest crayon in the box, but I do try. X

oh bless you, we don't have to be the brightest to shine the most.
I will let other answer as sounds like you have a hide - I'm not sure if it should be higher constantly , but on occasions mines gone higher it hasn't harmed but I spray the soil so it does tend to dry out - just try not to drench it so its wet and cold. id say aim to 58% but a higher range short spurts wont harm at all - not too high, not wet, not drenched! you might want to get yourself a cheap IR - check temps also ! (surface temps). CB

I bought a 4 watt substrate mat today. Not a heat mat as such. It's for overnight to stop it being cold and wet. It's lovely when you put your hand in. It's a glass tank I found at the tip.

What temp am I aiming for in the hide?

Thank you for your help.

I am a little cautious with those Lynnie as they can disrupt their ability to thermo regulate.

just keep an eye and also watch out for any fungal spore build up which can be harmful. ie the tortoise can wee on it and you wont know and the heat creates a fungus or bacteria that the eye can't see. They should be ok at night without any heat at all if your house temp doesn't drop below 16. don't overheat them re first sentence...! would love to see some pickies if get a chance. oh and don't forget in their own environment in the wild it can get pretty chilly so they wont be use to underground heat either. need a break from any heated area. They've got a dry area as well as this hide. They tend to wander from either. I thought letting them kind of do what instinct tells them was okay?? EEK! I so don't want to get it wrong. Thank you. X
