Someone has kindly pm'd me and asked me to email the picture. I have done, so it should be here shortly.
I've since found out that my baby Leopard had been taken out of his table by one of my childs 'new friends'. I think he's been squeezed, it pains me to type that! Let me know what you think. He's eating, drinking and pooping normally. |

And yes, I know his shell is bumpy. Sadly was like that when I got him. Was fed on garden peas. Took me four days to wean the bugger off!

The scute fell off because the bone underneath is dead. it looks like some more of the scutes will probably come off also. Are the scutes around the area loose? I'm not seeing any on going problem as this most likely happened a while ago.

Can I just ask - why does the bone die?

Either an infection or the bone was exposed. It was probably an infection in this case.

OK, thanks. So for the bone to be exposed it would have to what? Crack/break/chip its shell I'm guessing? And if that happened, would it only be the exposed bone that would die, or could other surrounding bone die even though not exposed?

You are correct
Usually it's just the bone that's exposed unless the area becomes infected and than more bone can die without being exposed. Danny

Thanks, Dan. I've checked the others shutes, all seem good. Not loose and it's starting to heal over already. I'm concerned about the darkening under the shell though. Can you see on the photo?

Hard to tell what's going on there in the picture. If you can get an antibiotic ointment and cover the area that should help prevent any problems.
