Yes, I think it is too. The stuff in fox gloves is used in heart treatment, I think it slows the heart rate down or something. I remember reading it in the Poison Garden book
Edit: Digitalin is the extract from digitalis (foxglove) Last edited by Alan1; 30-05-2018 at 01:51 PM. |

They’re so pretty and folklore says it helps to keep bad things away or attract the fae. I’m so tempted to move it elsewhere but with a dog and all the animals I think it’ll have to go. Why couldn’t it have been hollyhock?!

If you are ever in Northumberland the Poison Garden within Alnwick Gardens is an interesting visit
. . . or just watch this video and save yourself the entry fee https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGo9gYypQc8 Last edited by Alan1; 02-06-2018 at 06:38 AM. |

Quite fancy having a few in my garden just to make sure unwanted visitors don’t return...

It looks perfect there so hopefully will come up again next year as I think they're biennials. Your Horsfield clearly has an extreme food fetish. Glad he is still here to tell the tale after the foxglove!

What I found quite interesting was a lot of the plants they tell you about in the video and at the actual garden and also in the book were plants that we were told as very young children not to touch and we always knew not to touch them but never really knew why or what would happen if we did. The book is a great read. I can't seem to find it online though

do you remember the spy , double agent (couldn't be Wiltshire again could it ?) who was injected by a man with an umbrella, believed Russian but other spies available - that was digitalis and it was so quick acting he didn't stand a chance. Not nice but used by spies.
I have hardly any weeds grown this year, swamped out and then frazzled I think. Only ones in my pots are doing well but didn't do many this year so need back up plan next year.

I've been the opposite to you this year, swamped with weeds and flowers for them to eat. So far, I've been self-sufficient in the garden with no need to go out on a weed walk.
