Default Wooden floor problem !!!

As some of you know I found a rough haired Collie about six weeks ago no one ever claimed her so she is still here. Lady is a lovely dog I really love her but this week has developed a problem !! I was lighting the fire and the fire guard dropped she is scared of loud noises so ran and slipped on the floor since that she will not walk on the wooden floors. She won't go into the kitchen as you have to walk over one to get there even though I have put down some mats. I have tried everything to tempt her but she will only stay on the mat in the living room.
Has anyone ever had this problem ?

My border collie is the same, she's terrified of wooden floors!

She still is and she's been like it since she was a pup (she's now 8 years)

You may have to put some carpet down, I've had to do that for Holly, didn't want carpet in my room but have had to lol

I see this problem on a programme called the 'dog whisperer'. What the trainer did was put the dog on a lead and just kept walking it over the wooden floor, giving it treats and praise when the dog walked on the floor.

Could you put them long runner mats down so Lady would always have a bit of carpet to walk on at all times? xx

Thanks for your suggestions, I have put more mats down and this morning I lured her out with small bits of ham so she did walk in and out but this afternoon she is back to not going out again so will try again !! She's a very timid dog, easily scared and unsure but she is worth the effort

Aww...she sounds a little sweetheart. She's so lucky to have been found and rescued by you. X

Thanks Emma, I am trying my best with her. It's hard work at times especially as my last dig was just about perfect in every way. But I will battle on and hope for the best

I don't watch the dog whisperer, have read lots of bad things about Ceaser milan (sp?) and have watched loads of videos of him kicking dogs quite hard :-/

I wouldn't watch Ceaser Milan. He's not the sort of behaviouist I would want to meet in the dark!

I think runners on the floor is a good idea, or even some rubber matting. I think you are just going to have to be patient with her. Collies can be very sensitive to all sorts of things. If you have any knowledge of clicker training you could use that and food to lure her but it would have to be very small steps. See how she goes over the next few weeks, you have to gain her trust, it's early days yet.

If you need any help, message me, I am a dog trainer and behaviourist.
