Suzie
My Hermann has not been acting like she should lately even with all the good weather she just digs down all the time. The problem is this time I just cannot find her at all and it gives a lot of rain here from Thursday. She is in an enclosure that parts can get very waterlogged I am just wondering if this happened would she surface or just stay put.

I think it would depend on the temps Beverley. If it was warm enough for her to be active then she maybe would move but wouldn't like to say 100%
I think it was Kirkie that said they are programmed to survive ( he put it in a better way than that) so hopefully if she is in a place that isn't the best she will move - if she is warm enough. In the meantime I'd keep looking - just for your own piece of mind so you know whrre she is and observe what whe does |

I have struggled to find mine a few times recently, I think the warm weather is a bit deceptive because the ground is still quite cold. Each time I have found it it's been dug down right next to a hebe shrub or thrift plants, right down in amongst the roots

Hi Bev
I wouldn't worry too much. I lost a big Hermanns last summer for nearly two months. I only found her when I nearly planted a bush on her head. She was still in the enclosure. I also had one outdoors over the winter, not intentionally. Hermanns don't get enough credit for their digging ability. B&Q do 6x2 metre polythene sheets. You can fit these over the enclosure to keep rain off and it'll also bring the temperature up. |

I have really searched this time but no sign. I know her usual places to dig down as I have her a few years now. The plastic sheets are a good idea Dave but it would take a lot of them to cover the enclosure as it's pretty big. I may just leave her and hope for the best. Thanks for all your suggestions.

I agree on the ground temp's around here anyway the night's have been cold and dry here, to up the ground temp's day and night have to be something like. So maybe digging down now may keep the tort down untill a rise.

Eventually I found her under a rock. So she is staying in now for a few days until I know she is fine and eating well. It's a relief to have her back
