Journey begins
I have now ordered my first tortoise home. I have chosen an indoor rabbit housing type. Plastic bottom with a wire top to keep the cat away.
The house only cost £25 and was recommended by a very experienced breeder, due to the fact it should be easy to move due to the weight. I am now awaiting the information from Arcadia on the new releases of tortoise products before I invest in lighting etc. I did try to load a photo but kept getting disconnected from this site every time I tried. |

Sorry to hear you're having difficulties with the site. I look forward to seeing the enclosure once you've finished it.

Hello
I also use indoor rabbit cages for my tortoises and find it very good for them while they are small (will have to expand when they get bigger!!) Here is a picture of mine (are you using photobucket to post your pictures?) I currently use an Arcadia d3 100 watt combi bulb with a small clip on spot light at the other end to give plenty of light |

The cage I bought is a little smaller than yours without the stand however I am planning on putting onto a stand my fish tank is currently on. |

you need to copy and paste your picture from photobucket there's nothing to click on when you are making a post. What size is your 'cage' bear in mind that you only need the basking area hot and the rest must be room temp so you'll need to be carefull if the cage is small as a too strong heat bulb will heat the whole table, you also need enough room for a water dish, feeding slate and at least one hiding place for sleeping in, its surprising how much room these take up and of course the tort has to be able to move about and get some excersise. Most go for the biggest table they have space for and also be carefull what stand you use as these cages aren't made to take the weight of soil so can 'bend' if not well supported.
