i think it needs to be white light, i read somewhere that the red ones you can get arn't good for the tortoises eyes... but im sure someone on here with more knowledge can advise you more.
ps i use a UV light and seperate ceramic heat emitter, i find it works well

Normal heat bulbs are best because they also give visible light, red and blue lights give heat but no visual light to torts as they dont see the red/blue glow as we do

My strumpet Dotty spends a lot of time under a Red Light.
This is her preference, I've tried her with UV MV lamps and ceramic heaters but no she likes her big Infra-red light bulb. This is out in her conservatory so there is plenty of essential "White light" around even if the sun isn't shining. |

My Trot tort actually prefers a cheap heat lamp bulb to his expensive arcada one. They both seem to emit a white light so I don t know the difference, also both are 100 watt.

Tungsten spot lamps and halogens are fine if you supply UV light from another source, like the Sun. Halogens are meant to give off a better quality of light and they are slightly more efficient than tungsten. Last edited by Levi; 27-06-2012 at 11:13 AM. |

Aww, she's lovely .. maybe its because the red light is less for her do deal with on her eyes.. she might find the white ones to bright? doesnt really matter aslong as she gets visual light anyway

Thanks Xero, well it helps to keep her warm and happy which is the important thing, of course some sunshine and a summer would be better.
