That looks great . Would the coldrame not work better if the sides were also covered with one entrance that way they also have wind protection .

I've only just spotted that reply. I didn't want to box the coldframe in too much incase they tipped, making it difficult to get to the torts. It seems to be working anyway, its 39*c under there at the minute!! Grass is starting to come through now an there's a few more weeds, pots an a few hebe in there for shelter. I'll add updated pictures when I find my camera.
Tom.

It looks great! I'll be starting mine in August and had planned a very similar enclosure. It's the predator-proof roof that is still eluding me at the moment, so it's very useful to see yours. Useful to know the temp under the 'cold frame' bit too - I've just rescued some windows for a similar purpose but was wondering if they'd need boxing in or whether open-fronted would still make a temperature different. Any idea what the temperature was outside of your cold frame when the inside was 39 degrees?
Being just down the road in Lincs, I know who to call if I get stuck

Temps outside were around 25-27*c. Recently we had a 23*c ambient an due to the direct sun it was 40 under there do there's no real reason to box the front in. Thanks for the comments all, my Russian has been living in there since the begining of last month an he seems to be loving it! I'll add updated pictures soon, theres all sorts of weeds an plants growing in there now.
