More ?'s (sorry!!!)
OK, when I bath Darwin, I use a plant pot saucer as he's sooooo weeny I didn't know what else to use, is this big enough do you think? Because he doesn't move around much! But today he pooped in the bath!! Success \o/
How moist does the soil in his enclosure need to be? And I bought 2 plants for his enclosure as I had a yearling tort in mind but Darwin is so small they look like palm trees compared to him bless him, do I put them in anyway? And leave them in the pots or put in the soil in his cage? I bought him a hide but he doesn't use it. He beds down in the corner. Is this OK? Should I move his hide to that corner? He's only been here 2 days so yes still settling in Thanks for your advice again!! Bec xxx |

I use an ice cream tub for my hatchling's bath. The others all have washing up bowls.
I water the soil in their tables with a small watering can full of water each day to prevent the soil getting dusty. It helps to keep down the dust in the room too. You don't want it puddling and muddy but you want it quite damp. I water their substrate while they're in the bath. The lights soon dry it out again. Darwin will grow very quickly so although he seems small now, this time next year he'll be a lot bigger. I'd go ahead and pop your plants in his table. Watering and misting them will help keep up the humidity in his table. He'll probably quite like sitting under them while he's small and once he's bigger he'll trample all over them. He's still got to explore his table and find his hide, so don't worry. He's still so new.

I have 2 torts, 18 months and 2 years. One of them always sleeps in the hide but the other sleeps in the corner near the light, sometimes he will go to sleep there while they are still on, other times he moves there once the lights go off. He will occasionally sleep in the hide with his brother (maybe 1 or twice a week).

Yes, Darwin had 2 hides, a flower pot and a wood hide, he uses neither! Just head down bum up in the corner! I've just revamped his house and he only has the wood hide now.

Its a good idea just to let him make his own comfy areas. Petey has a house and a plant pot on its side neither of which gets used for sleeping (maybe once every month he goes in his house). He likes to sleep in between his plants and under his bridge as well. I am happy if he is so I would keep the bits in he likes.
I once put stones over the corner he usually sleeps in and he just spent the rest of the day digging them up and moving them. Ha ha. He was not loving me that day I use an ice cream tub for his bath. And I also water his soil when he is in his bath. The light dries it out so quickly. If its too dusty he could get some stuck up his nose and develop RNS as well

You can use the chat facility on here as well to ask any questions - i usually bend Merlin and Marg's ears about my little fella. But ask all the questions as the more you ask the more I am learning ha ha
