Funny noise from Leopard UPDATED!!!
I have a ten year old female Leopard, every morning when their light comes on she makes a loud noise like expelling air.
I cannot work out which end it comes from. She seems perfectly healthly in every way apart from this noise. She only does it once each morning. She lives with three others two other females and a male. Has anyone get any ideas Last edited by Buddhabelly; 03-11-2012 at 09:34 PM. |

It sounds like she is scared when the lights pop on and is pulling her head in quickly and hissing. If she is otherwise acting normally than i wouldn't worry about it.

Mine sometimes do that when I pick them up, especially if they have their heads in at the time. They just kind of exhale loudly through their nostrils.

They'll commonly hiss like you described when startled or scared. |

Thank you for your advice.
It isn't a hiss or the noise they make when startled. It got so bad that one night i filmed it. Today I went to the vets as I was worried it was pneumonia....it cost me £85 to be told she has FLATULENCE!!! |

Whilst I'm glad it's nothing sinister it did cost me dearly.
I had googled it and it said she had pneumonia. So I supposed it was better safe than sorry. Could have been worse the vet had another Tort in that had swallowed a screw |

Yes, it's a perfectly natural noise for a tortoise to make, expelling air through its mouth/nose, certainly NOT Pneumonia, or the other end. I would want a reduction on those costs, telling you something we have already told you.
