She also needs a beak trim, surprised the vet has not mentioned it:0)

I've just been flashed by my tortoise too, and I was surprised to learn females have erm, bits that stick out too! My little lady only has a small one though!! I know this sounds dim, but is that where the male puts his penis; I thought it would go in the hole in the tail?! Argh I feel like I'm learning anatomy all over again ;-D

So pleased that Dory is looking better and the results were clear. You must be so relieved.

I trimmed the beaks of my two earlier this year for the first time when they came out of hibernation. Initially I used a wooden nail file and they were perfectly content, but having been advised on the forum to use nail clippers I went for it and it worked. Quick and easy. They have been outside all summer and their beaks are fine.

I think we all need a biology lesson but I am not sure I should be the one. Same as females...two bits, one for in one for out...and same for males ..one for out and one for in !! omg I am not sure that has helped at all. And I got distinction in biology ! We did mostly Labradors (puppies) and ox eyes though, sorry, CB

Lol, that sort of makes sense! I think. I'm afraid that while I'm above average with my human biology, I'm well below average with tortoise anatomy!!

I'm pleased all his results are clear, but just frustrated he isn't his normal self. The xray was still bugging me that you can't see his lungs and I wondered if it was the machine? So I had something to compare to he offered to xray Darla my other tortoise.
The tort on the left is Dory (the one with the problems) and the right is Darla.

As you can see his lungs are clearly visible. The vet is going to get a second opinion as he still thinks it's a lung problem, but Dory isn't showing any symptoms.

poor little Dory. See I am no professional but I would have said Dory's xray should have more depth to it , ie darker like Darla. The lungs are at the top and I think the bit in the middle is the trachea. (throat) which can become inflamed. Dorys doesn't look as it should against Darla's and why isn't her lungs like Darla's? There seems to be fluid in there?, same as a human xray when has fluid on the lungs, (I do spend a lot of time around hospitals and a friend is a radiologist) but by no means professional ! I am sure they will get it sorted. Keep nice and warm but allow to cool down still of course. Brilliant of you to share the xrays also as not seen many at all. CB
