Default Newbie housing questions

Hi guys,

we are considering getting a hermann baby next year and currently researching housing options. I came across this http://www.harrodhorticultural.com/s...s-pid8093.html
Would that be suitable for indoor enclosure? Is there any reason to not use it, in terms of the wood not being specifically pet friendly? Hope that makes sense. We would go for the 1 foot deep one. Tables I have seen are only 6 - 8 inches deep, that doesn't seem much once the topsoil is added. l
For outside, we have an old 2m x 2m 40cm deep sandpit. Till what age would that size be suitable?
Thank you

It looks fine other then putting in a new bottom and if you want raising the sides some.

I once saw a potting table in B&Q which would have been ideal if you added a front and made the sides higher, it had a shelf underneath and was the ideal height, I think what you're looking at looks a great idea. Yes they can be made a lot cheaper but if you don't mind the cost then why not have what you like.

The 4ft x 4ft is a good one, it will last quite a few more years as the tortoise grows rather than the 4ft x 2ft, and whilst a baby you can just use 1 half of the table by putting in a dividing wall of bricks or wood until the baby gets bigger then you just take out the wall.

Good quality table there x

Thank you everyone. We have no space for the 4ft x 4ft as the room it will go to is very long and narrow. So the plan is to get another one eventually and join them lenghtways. In terms of the outside, how long would the 2m x 2m, that's roughly 6.5ft x 6.5ft be sufficient for?

If you are considering spending that much then personally I would have a look at a custom made Tortoise table from http://www.petandtortoiseworld.co.uk...se_Tables.html The sides are a little bit higher, and you would also not have to worry about changing the base to something more suitable. You would have to varnish or line the base with some plastic though like I did to waterproof the table.
