Is my Hermann Constipated?
I've had my tortoise for a couple of weeks now and have only observed one poo in her table. She is taking a little while to settle in and only just started to eat in any reasonable amounts. She still spends much of her day buried in the substrate though. I bathe her at least once every day in warm water.
Do you think she is constipated and if so then what should I do? |

Typical, I post this then put her into a warm bath and she passes a massive amount of urates, so hopefully that will sort things out.

How are your temperatures in the enclosure? How long are your lights on?

Daytime 35°C under the heat lamp, 20°C at the cool end. Lights on 14hours/day.

Is it getting any lower than 20C at night? What lights do you have?

Yes, currently it would likely get below 20°C at night. The lamp is a 100W Mega-Ray combined heat/UV.

Sounds like it's getting to low at night (need to keep it 20C at least) and not enough light during the day. You can add a regular florscent bulb to add more light.

There is also a UVB fluorescent tube above the table. I have a thermostat on order for hooking up to a ceramic heater for night time temperatures. Why do you think the light or temperatures are contributing to constipation though?

Not the constipation (which probably isn't a problem as not much is going in so not much should be coming out ). I'm more worried about still being inactive and not eating that much. The more she eats the more she'll poo
