Default Spur Thighed claws

Hi,
We've got a year and a half year old spur thighed tort. We have noticed recently that her claws are really long and one is bending round quite far.
we have 2 slate plates that she eats off and have recently put in a patch that is just stones in the hope they will trim her claws down.

Does anyone else have this problem? and do we need to get her claws trimmed?

We are going to the cheshire tort show in may but just want to see if we need to deal with this now.

Thanks

Generally tortoises claws will be kept down by harder surfaces in the enclosure. They do need quite long nails, to help dig down into hard soil, and of course if female for digging nests.
I have not had to cut any of my tortoises nails in over 33yrs of keeping them.

my smaller torts get longer nails through the winter, but these soon wear down when they are outside with lots to climb, i have never had to clip my torts nails either, or their beaks x
