important thing is temperature of both areas and you need thermometers placed there permanently so that with a glance as you walk by you know exactly whether things are right.

I would also say depending on his size he may not have any choice but to walk over or through the many obstacles in his table, I'd take some of the things out to give him some more roaming space. If he has clear space around the water bowl he may go around it instead of through it, what about swapping the dishes over, use the bigger one for the food.

He does have space to go past it without going in it but I will remove some stuff I thought it may be interesting for him to have bits in there? Should I get the pellet looking substrate to put in swell so he has different textures to walk on?

no the soil is fine, if you want to put pebbles around the water dish put them as close together as poss and slightly buried so just the tops show, they will make a kind of pavement so he's just walking on them not the soil, it does work You'll also find if you clear a pathway around the outside of the table and put the water more towards the middle he may advoid it, most torts seem to prefer going around the sides and that includes outside, maybe in the wild they don't like to be caught in the open. It doesn't matter how big the garden or table they will always seem to prowl the perimeters so don't put anything like the food or water in that pathway.

So I should put them in the middle? He doesn't seem to fussed about walking along the sides he seems fine walking anywhere. He's basking at the mo so he def knows where the basking area is so the divider isn't a problem.

Looks like he has more room now mine climb a lot as well ther are always trashing there houses lol just normal really. Top soil is much better for them than the pellet looking stuff I have tried it before and the thing I noticed most is it smells really bad not sure what its made from but it has a strong smell.

I sometimes put crushed oyster shell around the water dish, this helps a little.

Bruce is very sweet x
