Did you get her tested for worms? I saw that you use soil from the garden she could have picked up worms from the soil very easily. Its worth a try. xx

I was advised to bath my star tortoise with a few drops of abedec vitamins in the water. It worked well for her. I don't have them now but she picked up really well with them. She was only 20g as well but was not a year. Another member has the pair of stars now and hopefully they are doing well. I hope your little one does better soon.

I've had a tortoise for two years who just doesn't seem to grow so this is very interesting.

I saw some of the Abidec stuff mentioned on the first page... It's a vitamins growth encouraging type thing, but its a syrup and lemon flavoured?! Is this the same one???

Yes its the ABIDEC that is used for babies. I got mine from sainsburys, it comes in an orange box.

I was advised to put a little in the torts bath and sit him in it for 10 minutes or longer if he wanted. Even if the tortoise doesnt drink he will absorb some of the goodness. x

if you worm your tort you risk losing the beneficial gut bacteria which would be a backwards step, soaking with an additive sounds like a good option at the moment.
good luck,keep us informed.

Yes Abidec very rarely fails. I've used it on several occasions with amazing results. Poor growth and other problems are often caused by dehydration at some point very early on in the hatchling's life, but it's not irreversible with a lot of TLC and patience. I had one who even went blind and it took 18months for her to start gaining weight and organs functioning properly. She is now 14 and an egg-laying healthy female.Loads of people on here have found Abidec to be pretty miraculous!
