Default I cant seem to get it right!!!

Okay, so our babies are little fatties! They've been putting on way too much weight and thats worrying me. At first I cut off on fruits, but now they munch like mad in the mornings and very little fruit when offered. I'm thinking of cutting off more on the weeds. I'm still confused about how much they should eat and how much they should put on...any references welcomed please!

Thanks,

Madalina

6 g this week and another 4 the week before that! The hatchling put 2g in the first week and 4g this week. Way too much for the 4g a month you told me to aim for...

Hi Madalina,
Thats a perfectly fine weight gain for Redfoots. You have to remember Redfoots aren't Med. tortoises. They end up getting much larger than Meds. and grow at a different rate, seeing as they don't hibernate in the wild. Just keep up with supplementing and the Redfoots will be just fine with the weight gain they are doing now. Also as they get larger the weight gains will become larger too.

Hi Madelina and Michael,

You are right to question weight gains, it is always better to be safe than sorry and proves that you are definately going to be 2 very careful and concencious tortoise keepers. It is at this stage of theor development most of the harm is done if not done right, and you are both on the ball here by the look of it keeing weight charts etc...

This will no doubt give you perfect little red foots.

Keep up the great work.

Ade
