Tort Table for Reds from Darren
Hi All,
I'm heading over to Darrens next week to collect 2 Redfoots, myself and the misses were putting together the table tonight and gona test it out next few days to see what kind of humidity levels and temperatures we are achieving. It is a 4 foot x 2 foot table whos setup is as follows: 1) 50mm Top Soil 2) Then covered with 20mm Repti Bark 3) Some plants with big leaves to give shade (leaves will be kept out of eating reach) 4) Basking lamp on one end 5) Hideout on the other with open top lid (we plan to add some of these half round wood bark hideouts inside and outside the hideout) 6) 5% UVB Tube 7) Food and Water Bowels 8 ) We are going to have thermometers on each end and one in the middle (proper ones bought off Dazza not the ones in photo) 9) We are going to have a proper hydrometer also bought off Dazza 10) We are concerned we won't mainain temperatures above 20-22 degress in cool areas so may move table to other wall in the room beside radiator, at the same time hoping this won't dry up humidity, we will play around with it next few days before we get the torts until we find out whats working. Photos are below, we are open to ideas and had 1 question: How long should the heat lamp and UVB tube be on for each day? We are really looking forward to bringing the little guys home!!! Cheers! Oh wow brilliant table
You are getting super reds off Darren, i have seen them. If you are having troubles with your temperatures some people use these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ceramic-Heat-B...QQcmdZViewItem They give off only heat and come in arange of wattages.

you have done a great job you could try to get an asparagus fern these are not toxic but the torts dont want to eat it they provide great dappled shade and tolerate the heat and uv in the table well bark was added after these pics were taken there are quite a few varieties of the asparagus fern |

Thanks all, after taking Sarah's advice (thank you ) the result is: humidity level between 70-80%, temperature at cool end 24 degrees Celcius, warm end around 32-34 degrees. I'm thinking of shading the warm end tho with a plant, so the light wont bother the little guys too much. The hiding place is no longer a hiding place, we will be adding of course hideouts. We also moved the table on the other wall of the room and closer to the radiator, we'll be monotoring the temps and humidity and if they dont work we'll move the table back to its original place.
Linda, Mick looked for asparagus fern today but he didnt find any so I'll be keeping an eye out for them, thanks for the suggestion. If you guys have any suggestion please do tell us! We want it all to be perfect by Tuesday when by 8 pm we shall have two little redfoots hopefully hapilly investigating their new home. Thanks Michael/Madalina |
