Not really, except that horn is porous, so small amounts may get through as in heating up of the carapace. As far as I know as in (Physics) only a few hours aweek of sun is required.

No... the keratin layer is not porous. You need to stop using the TT as a resource. Biology would be the resource for the amount of UVB required to produce the D3 needed to metabolize calcium.

Once again... it is layed down in layers from the bone. It is also layed down on the annular edges of the scutes. It is none porous once it is layed down.
