If you wanna get all technical it's the tympanic membrane

Very important to keep an eye on this area as any swelling can indicate an abscess.

It's also made me think of a question. As they are a "scale" of sorts do tortoises shed this scale or does it just grow? I know iguana's shed it as they grow.

Funny thing is if I'm just looking at him I can't see it like it is shown on the picture!After you've confirmed it is the ear,I know where to look at least!
