If you wanna get all technical it's the tympanic membrane .

Very important to keep an eye on this area as any swelling can indicate an abscess.

It's also made me think of a question. As they are a "scale" of sorts do tortoises shed this scale or does it just grow? I know iguana's shed it as they grow.

Thanks,Paul! Funny thing is if I'm just looking at him I can't see it like it is shown on the picture!After you've confirmed it is the ear,I know where to look at least!
