Thanks for all the helpful comments, it's defiantly been introduced via a tortoise seed pack as it grows nowhere else in the garden but in abundece in the newly planted tortoise area, the torts are not in there at the mo so no danger of them eating it.
The buds on top are looking like they want to flower so maybe when they come out it will be more help, Cheers again for those helping

Ok problem sorted, the flowers have now come out on a couple and comparing them to the pictures on the packets we seeded the tortoise area from we have found them to be borage and now know to feed in moderation
Cheers again to those that helped

That looks a bit different to my borage. Does it have blue flowers?
I'm not 100% sure about how safe it is to feed either. I bought borage seeds and they did well a couple of years ago but then I read it wasn't edible....

Hi
Yes it does have blue flowers Bearing in mind the seeds I used come from the shelled warriors site I'm pretty sure it's ok to feed but has to be in moderation

Must be some kind of hybrid. It's nothing like any kind of Borage I have seen with those pointy leaves. Are the tortoises happy eating it?

Not tried the torts with it yet as unsure 100% what it is
Only went borage as the flower pod, and leaves looked similar to the small pic on the seed packets we planted the area with We did also plant hibiscus as well but sandy seemed so sure it wasn't Will take another pic of the flowers this time and post it tomorrow

I would say this is not borage. Are the stems a dark, sort of purply colour? I used to grow this here from UK bought seed. The seed pods form little balloons. I'm trying to think of the name----it WILL come to me! Probably not good as tortoise food though. Will post as soon as remember.

Got it! It is Nicandra physaloides. There is also a variegated form but the one you have seems to be green. Pretty, blue flowers. Has dark little pimples on the leaves.
