Have just changed over from d3 Arcadia 160w to tubes. 2 bulbs went on me they where covered by the guarantee, and surrey pets where great but no confidence in bulbs

You may want to consider using a reflector to maximise the UVB from the tube, Meacy. That is if you haven't gotten already xx

Also with a heat only bulb you can use a thermostat

I much prefer the tubes and separate heat bulbs too. Of course the kitchen looks like Blackpool illuminations, but I never need to turn the main light on!

A dimming thermostat is great with halogen lamps. Another way to go is to try different wattages of lamp until the temp is at the desired level. This means less wires and sensors but admitted it doesn't allow for things like cenrral heating going on and off.

Oh poop! I was going to go with the combi bulbs because all I have read so far has been positive! can we not rely on anything these days?
