Is 'Dot' a Ouachita?
I recently rehomed this young female map, thinking at the time that she was a False but now I wonder if she is a ouachitensis or possibly a hybrid..
Thanks for looking.. Last edited by Tappers; 31-08-2008 at 07:19 PM. |

Looks like an Ouachita to me.
Recommend Graptemys.com site if you want to look at good ID Photo's. |

Thanks for that, I looked there and elsewhere and saw some stunning turtles but they seemed a bit more heavily marked than this little female. I'll keep my eye out for company of the right species!

Thanks Danny, looks like I'll be needing two enclosures for maps when they mature
For my piece of mind, this is Terrington (Terry for short!) who I believe is a False Map but I would love confirmation: Last edited by Tappers; 01-09-2008 at 09:40 AM. |

To be certain of ID, you need to take other pic's, ideally with better head shot, from side and above?
However, why are you looking at seperating them when they are older? |

I'll get some better shots of him - you can see the top of his head in the back of the first photo.
I'm thinking that I'll seperate them to avoid possible hybridisation once they're mature then build both species into 1.2 groups in outdoor filtered pools. Seems a bit harsh to move Dot on because I missidentified her Last edited by Tappers; 01-09-2008 at 01:07 PM. |

Thanks Danny
I'm rapidly starting to believe that 'Mississippi Map' is a rather over-used label for many of these lovely little turtles. Good job I don't have the room to collect the whole genus |
