Talking yellow belly sliders?

my friend has a pair of yellows.....one has red markings behind its eyes...what does this mean ...does it mean its a male?

hi chris thanks for that.....i will pass that onto my turtle friend! (i hope its not a wind up) he also said it has distinct white markings on its shell. does this shed any further light?
