First proper heavy rain here since February today, despite the drainage holes this setup has about 3CMs of standing water in it. Nothing for the excess to soak into. Any hatchlings would have been kaput.

Luckily, I havent put anyone in there so far. Think I'll rip the clay out. Stoopid idea anyway.

Maybe not for an enclosed outside enclosure, but that set-up would work fine indoors. Would probably work fine outdoors if you did the clay base on the ground. Build a small outside enclosure, put the clay down like you did (though sloped (ala AH ) to the soft dirt side for drainage). I think it would work great that way. Might though want to use a black or gray mixed with black clay for the heat.

Another potential issue I've since read of is silicosis, a lung disease caused by inhaling clay dust. If the substrate got scratched up over time it's a risk.
