The decision for euthanasia is based on the condition of the tortoise. Its going to need lots of supportive care (and i will probably loose money on it but thats not the point). It could move and was responsive. Although there is a large tissue deficit, From what i can see there is no coelomic organ damage that is obvious. Its got to pull through the first few days though as an anaesthetic is a bit risky at the mo. The shell probably will never heal over so it needs a prosthetic replacement. It will loose a large portion of the left lung probably but that shouldnt affect it too much.. In this pic its packed off with gel and now has a body bandage on top

Like I said she is on lots of painkillers. Believe me if i think there is no chance, I will put them to sleep straight away. please refer to the dog attack pictures if you are in any doubt.

The poor tortoise that is a really horrific injury.
I am full of praise for you Rodneyvet for the care you are giving this tortoise, I do hope it pulls through, I know you are doing your very best and it is in expert hands.

if it saves any tort from a similar accident it will be well worth it im hoping the torts recovers from his injuries |

adam, i understand that you care for animals,
but we dont progress if we just stand still its people like Rodneyvet that have made it possible for us to have all this wonderful medical treatment , a hundred years ago we died from things that are now simple to cure maybe this tort wont survive, the stress alone is a funny thing, but it will not be in any real pain with the aid of modern medicine and the leasons learnt from this will enable vets to take tort treatment a little futher the next time |
