Bronze Tortoise Bell
On Thursday we bought from a market bric a brac stall an old tortoise shaped bronze bell, I think it is Chinese. A lovely object, it has something written on the bell handle. Can anyone tell what it says? It might have been a servant calling bell or a hotell bell, who knows.

Oh how lovely is that, I'd love that myself, but I'm afraid I can't help you with the writing x

It doesn't look like the top part is original. If you look at it, the tortoise looks like its had a lot of wear, the lines are worn away and not as crisply defined. The top also looks more roughly made and you can see the solder where it is attached. It also looks like the top and bottom are different metals, the bottom part looks brass, not sure you about the top.
Having said that, it's very nice.

Maybe the tortoise bit has been worn by lots of rubbing? You know, like people rub the Buddha's belly for good fortune/money? Having said that, I'm probably talking a load of old rubbish, lol.

It is a lovely object to keep, took me two years of visiting this market to find a tortoise object, I keep looking every time I visit this place. Thanks to everyone for your kind comments.
