Default JW Master sleepy pie

This is the little chap who nearly died. I didn't like to post before case he didn't make it, like his little friend. JW has put on lots of weight and is eating really well after a tortuous start in life having been left in a tiny dark area with his friend, in his own poop and without water. CB

Great news CB. I expect you're looking forward to getting him outside soon too. Does JW stand for something?

yes I am Jonathan ! I love all my torts outside rain or shine. I named him John Wayne , just because he is a fighter and didn't want to get too attached. I was so sad when his friend passed on and JW took ages to eat and even move more that a few centimetres. Loads of soaks in organic carrot baby food and he gradually came round (I suppose organic baby food doesn't have preservatives as it went mega mouldy quick, cost me loads more than weeds and nightmare aisle shopping! )
I have put him in with Elenor and they seem to get on ok thank goodness. CB

That's intensive care CB. And intensive on your budget too.

In the past I've used some Mazuri with a tort when it was very run down. Normally I don't use that kind of food but it's one way of getting loads of protein and other stuff into them.

Well done you, CB, for such care to help JW come through it. He came into a safe pair of hands after what sounds a dreadfully traumatic neglectful existence. The photo is simply adorable.

Well done, you must be so pleased. I remember the worrying posts. All that love and care has been so worth it.
Of course JW are excellent initials!

I sometimes get asked to look after poorly tortoises as it can be expensive for owners if they fall sick etc, and the two little ones arrived with all sorts of problems, shells had been eroded and damaged underneath and the vet thought it was the bedding they were on but it turned out it was the ammonia from their poops and wee had simply rotted into the shell. Both just wouldn't eat at all and eyes were sealed shut, despite lots of care his friend passed away quickly, I think he was just too small and vulnerable. JW took forever to wake up in the mornings was completely listless to the point I had to touch him to see if he was 'warm'. I left him well alone and just bathed him as much as possible, then he started sneezing and I thought the worse and then one day he ate teeny weeny morsel of food. He is now in with Elenor and slingsby. And keeps falling over but I'm hopeful ! CB

Oh no, how awful, what are some people thinking ! But so good he is doing well now, with the very best of care. I hope he continues to thrive.
