Default SUN TUNNEL

Hi everyone I am in the process of making an outdoor enclosure for my hermann as currently he is in a vivarium! as advised by pet shop. I can't wait for the weather to warm up, I have put a sun tunnel in the enclosure and was just wondering if this would provide sufficient heat? Can he live outside during summer day and night?

Hi there,
Welcome to the forum. Youll probably get the picture when you browse the site that all of us have made the same mistake as you at some point and bought a viv (wrong advise) from the pet shop. Problem is that the torts need a cooler end and a warm end, vivs are high in humidity and do not promote general wellbeing for torts. Please move him out as soon as you can. Can you move him into an open topped enclosure. Loads of pics to be seen on this site. Have a browse

A sun tunnel is good, as long as they have the choice to cool down when it gets too hot. Also you will need to consider that they need open access to the sun (uvb), there are plenty of good pics here to help with your choice and to decide what you want for your tort.
take care

Hi thanks for replying I am so glad I found this site I have been researching everything I can't wait to get him out there. The enclosure has a large open area which I will cover somehow to guard from predators. I have also ordered some weed and flower seeds esp for torts as was also advised to feed damm pellets and can now see he has quite bad pyramiding

At least you are putting this right now, well done you for looking into the best care. As i say, one way or another weve all been there.

Good thing about feeding is that all weeds are free, so many to hunt for, check out the care sheets and lists of weeds and flowers, This site will help you to help your tortoise lead a long ,healthy and happy life. There are some very kind and lovely people here to help you

We'd love to see some photos of Zippy, do you know what sex he is ? For a positive id take a photo of the underneath close to the tail.
If you do post some pics in pictures, or for id post under identification and sexing. Im always posting there. Some good experts will tell you all you need to know.

My torts are out all dayand night now yes, ive got a recent rehomer in quarantine on a table and a young hermann too. they are in the house with uvb lighting.

My additional 7 hermanns and 7 horsefields are in an outdoor heated greenhouse now all day and all night, they bury at night and are really enjoying it in there, it got to 25 degrees c on monday. the sun hits the glass all day from 10am-7pm, so sometimes i take out a few panes of glass so they get the full uvb impact.
I also have uvb lights in the greenhouse for extra cover .
