baby horsefield tortoise - one eye shut/swollen
Hi guys,
I got two little horsefield tortoises last friday prob about a year old. One of them has only just opened his eyes (Monday), today his eye is shut again and im not sure if it looks swollen. Has anyone had similar problems? or can recommend anything? Thanks in advance! |

It would be helpful to know what setup you have them housed in, heat, light, substrate etc.

Hi and welcome to the forum. As above, the more information the better, but a trip to the vet would be wise.

Hello,
I've got the same. I have two horsefields who are just over one years old. One of them is fine not a problem, she is growing well. The other is a bit weak. Her eyes are closed a lot of the time just recently and she is quite dozy but i don't know whether perhaps that is her wanting to hibernate with it getting cooler. She is still eating a little. She is in a table with top soil. Her temps are right, she has UVB. Humidity is right. She is rubbing them quite a bit too when she does open them. So on Wednesday i took her to a reptile vet he checked her eyes and checked for scratches and ulcers. There was nothing to see but he did agree they look irritated so he gave me some eye drops for conjunctivitis. Fingers crossed these work but i am not holding out much hope as she seems so weak and slow. Anyone else have this problem? |

Daily soaking will also help plus a shallow water container big enough to get into that is accessible all the time.

They always have a daily 15-20 mins bath and shallow water on there table to paddle in
I am beginning to feel that no matter how much time i put into checking and rechecking things she is just generally v weak and of poor health. They both live together and the other is fine. Just wish she would be well and stop worrying me to death x |
