Just to clarify - I couldn't find any references to tyrosinase, temps and tortoises, although I will admit to only conducting a cursory search.

I'm guessing that it is a crossover from snake/lizard references because those are currently popular terms in the genetics of those critters. It does warrant some looking into but I really don't know why.

I actually found the above section of your post rude at first... now it's just laughable... we are keeping pet tortoises... the talks I have heard on the subject have not used the type of critical language you use... to successfully get your points across... you need to be understood by your audience... to stop them becoming bored... I cannot see any of the members on here reaching for a dictionary and deciphering every second word on a post.
I disagree Kelly, I like learning not only about the biology and anatomy of tortoises but also the terminology used. Constantly dumbing down would lose some education on the board.
