Default Greek Mythology

Can anyone recommend a good book with the stories of the gods that's suitable for 14 year old? We are doing Greek mythology at the moment and would like to get deeper into the stories. There are lots of books but these Greek guys were not celibate by any means so I don't want my son to read anything too sexual.

Great question Wendy and a fantastic topic to be studying.
I had a quick peep at Amazon and liked the look of this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/100-Characte...NW502WYTHFW6ES
or http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1...0C2SWDJTKPW1RB

I covered the Greeks with the older kids quite a few years ago and with little man two years ago and used great kids books on Greek Mythology from the Book People, but I don't have a book that's appropriate for teens, so can't personally recommend one. I presume Kian has read the Percy Jackson books? They seem to cover a lot of the Gods and Goddesses well, without being overtly sexual.

Thanks Emma. Myself and Kian have not long finished the Percy Jackson books which has piqued our interest in delving deeper. We have touched on it when he was younger but not in great depth. We have also read the Kane chronicles which are based on the Egyptian gods. It would be interesting to compare the gods of both and the Romans.
I know Kian isn't innocent by any means but his sexual knowledge is not the same as a school child of his age. It's more pure, in that he knows the facts rather than the sordid stuff most boys of his age know. I don't mind references to sex but not too graphic. I think it detracts from the story.

I loved doing Ancient Egypt with the kids. I bought a fab board game from Bright Minds years and years ago that takes a while to play but was great fun. http://www.educationallearninggames....ians-rules.asp
I'm not sure if it's even for sale anymore.

Home educating does give us the opportunity to educate our kids about the facts of life in a biological and matter of fact way. I've always been grateful that I've had that chance and they didn't get an education in sleaze. It's shocking how young kids come out with stuff they've learned in the playground. I'm glad mine were innocent until I decided it was time for them to learn.

We have that game too. Also got it when we did ancient Egypt. I love all the Egyptian stuff. Been watching an interesting series called The Pyramid Code, about how they think they got the whole burial chamber thing wrong. Gives an interesting alternative perspective. Well worth a look.

I've not seen that one advertised. I'll definitely look it up, thanks.
