Testudo hermanni hermanni
Can someone explain to me why it takes so long to sex a tortoise?
I'm also wondering what size I can expect my Testudo hermanni hermanni to grow too? I was told she will never be bigger then the palm of my hand? |

A bit bigger than the palm of you hand , my adult THH female is about 6 1/2 inches long , the male is slightly smaller, about 4 1/2 inches, males are always smaller.

Size depends on a few things, some are size of parents, where in the range the parents are from and food your tortoise gets. Adult females are usually between 15cm and 20cm for Testudo hermanni hemanni depending on where in the range they are from.
It takes a while to sex a tortoise becuse one they can't tell you what sex they are and two outward sexual characteristics aren't evident until the tortoise is a certain size (the size depends on species and the sex of the animal as to what size that will be). Danny

It would be funny if they could speak and tell us if they were male or female! I'm going to imagine mine is female.

Makes you slightly worried to name them - doesn't it?
You don't want a Jerry, only to find out it's a Geri a few years later |
