Unhappy Torty Friendships?!

My tortys dont seem to care about each other.

They walk over each other if they want to be somewhere. If one is having a nap but the other wants the spot he will push it out the way.

Is this normal...?! Not being friends or seeming to have no care about the other being there?

In the wild they naturally lead solitary lives. They meet to mate and then seperate, the femals eventually lays the eggs and then she leaves them to fend for themselves. No they do not feel for each other at all.

I don't know where this fits in with natural wild behaviour but I have two large tortoises that will actively seek each other out to sleep next to each other. I also have 3 hatchlings living together, but two are always side by side, eating and sleeping together whilst the other is a loner

Mine always sleep next to each other, but the male one ignores the female, but she always needs to be around him.

What's more interesting is that she does not need any attention at all in the form of stroking, but he demands petting from me. He'll chase after me if he wants me to play with him and loves sitting at my leg as I kneel and stroke under his head and on his shell. Do others have this reaction from tortys?

Or it could be that they're converging on the same place due to the temp being just right and by feeding with each other simply competing.. Guess it depends how you look at things

I beleive that they do make 'freindships' of a sort, at least they know when one is missing, my hatchlings always sleep/eat together then as they are sold they seem to know one has gone. Its always sad when there's one left as he/she does look for the others, at the moment my adult male and female Ibera are together and they do seem to like sleeping and eating together. I suppose in the wild they don't have any choice about living by themselves but in captivty I do think some, not all, like company.

I wondered why that tiny little hearse was being followed by weasels going across the garden last week.

I've always found the males come running and interact much more with their owner than the females, whatever species they are. They seem interested in what you are doing. Some like company, one of mine always goes off on her own,but they do seem to like being in a huddle at night.Guess thats to retain the daytime warmth rather than anything else.
