Default Worm count advice please x (and where it was tested)

I received Rambo's results for his worm count today that I'd sent off to the 'wormcount lab' costing £6.00. (Edit by caledonia> http://www.wormcount.com/)

Below is the email I recieved, so do I worm him or not?

I see that they reccommend re-testing in 6 months, but if Rambo has got 20eggs per gram (hope thats what it stands for) does he need a dose of panacur?

I would have thought that any worms wouldn't be very good for the tortoise or is it normal for a tortoise to have some?

Thanks x

Lynne it says less than 20 Epg which I assume is low enough not to need treatment just a retest in 6 months

I presume all is good. I would think they would have recommended treating in the recommendation box if something needed seeing to

But what I was wondering is.. If he has worm eggs even if not many, then if left untreated won't they multiple? So why don't they reccommend treatment to get rid of them even if the count is low?

I'm not worried or anything just curious really.

I don't know exactly how it works with those particular parasites but i do know that if it is a low number, that as long as the tort is kept in optimum conditions then the parasites will not be able to flourish to an amount that affects the tort in which case need not be treated, although i don't know if that applies to those specific ones. So if this is the case IMO i wouldn't treat as treatment will also kill off some of the beneficial bacteria in the gut.

I have a feeling that they will never record a zero reading just a "so small its negligible" reading. They are protecting themselves from legal action should it turn out that there was one they missed.

Basically, they're saying its not worth treating... So don't
