BTW I have noticed in the shops today that a lot of the fresh produce goes out of date on the 24th, no doubt a ploy to make people have to go back on friday or saturday to buy more

Surely our friendly supermarkets wouldn't do that would they?

It's the same every year Alan. We don't eat chrimbo dinner until boxing day so we have to buy our food on the last day possible. We went out on Monday to get the longer lasting ingredients and will be going again on Saturday to get the veg etc, so the date will be OK.

I got a filthy look from a shelf-stacker in Sainsburys when I pulled out the dips and coleslaw from the back of the cabinet, rather than taking the front ones. The front ones were dated 24th Dec, the back one's were dated 31st Dec. Surely I'm not the only one who does that?!
I shot him a look back and he decided not to say anything....

I do that all the time Emma, especially with bread, you need your food to last as long as possible when the prices are so high.

Good luck shopping on saturday, Lynne. I went shopping on Christmas Eve about 12 years ago....NEVER again!! We even went really early in the morning, about 7am, thinking we'd avoid the crowds. Ha!! Trolley rage was in full swing when we got there.
If we don't have everything by now - tough! My fruit and veg gets delivered on Friday so that'll be nice and fresh so I'm not stepping one toe in another shop until after Christmas.
