I wrote the microchip number on the application form and they emailed asking for a copy of the letter from the microchip company or the barcode. I just scanned the confirmation letter from the microchip company and barcode and emailed it to them and the a10 turned up the next day

Hi I just read this " in Germany they have been issuing certificates with a photo of the tortoise on it claiming it is a form of identification and issuing a Specimen Specific Article 10 Certificate . It has now been agreed at the last EC CITES Committee meeting that photo's will not be considered as a valid form of ID , therefore these certificates are transaction certificates and the seller must by law have them changed to there name before offering them for sale"

Am now a little concerned. I was given two tortoises by a friend with their A10 certs which are German which photos attached. Previous owner bought the torts from a petshop as hatchlings and never changed A10s into her name. I would like the certs in my name as would like to breed them. However can you advise if their are likely to problems with me doing this given that its now illegal practise for Germany to do A10s in this way?

The tortoises are now 11 years old so it was quite a while ago their certs were issued when perhaps law was different.

if it was legal at that time then it shouldn't be a problem. I would phone DEFRA if you are not sure about anything, no idea what the number or email address is but people on here seem to get in touch with them all the time so someone will know
