Is the male still in with her. They really can't settle down to laying while the male is around. Hope she finds the right place soon! I know oxytocin does have to be used sometimes but it does mess them up hormonally.

I'm not keen on any intervention either,
Dandy is still in with her but is sleeping
most of the day and night, they get very
distressed when separated(even for vet
appointments) but wil separate them if
need be.

If your female is digging she will not be thinking of anything else, least of all the other tortoise, so when it's light get him out and leave her to it. Make sure that soil is really packed down solid.

If there are no eggs in the morning, I suggest you take her for a ride in the car in a box. Lots of babies arrive whilst driving to the vet
Put her back on the soil again. If there is still no eggs tomorrow, you need to get her exrayed to see what she is carrying. If all is well within, your vet should give her an oxytocin injection which should releave those eggs. It may be she is carrying up to five eggs, which have been waiting to be laid for some time. There is no reason why after this she should not be able to lay perfectly normally in the future.

Let's hope you hit the Jackpot tomorrow!

I really wonder how many keepers actually know the risks for using oxytocin in reptiles.

I believe it should be used only as a last resort.

There is only one egg being retained. I do hope the vet that is being consulted does have the experience or connections to make an informed decision as to when the use of oxytocin is necessary.

I agree with not using any drugs unless
absolutely necessary Ed and I'm led to
belive my vet is competent in torts, he was
recommended by another vet with an
interest in exotics as being the best around here,
But iv only met him for initial registering of our
Torts, if no sign of eggs by Thursday il ring him and
maybe get radiographs to be sure she
is gravid before asking any further advice
form u guys and Mark (a vet in Bedworth ).
hopeful he wil let me photograph any rads
taken
